A Late Quartet
, 105 minutes
Phillip Seymour-Hoffman; Catherine Keener; Christopher Walken; Mark Ivanir
Among the pleasures of director Yaron Zilberman's first feature is that of seeing Walken get a rare chance to embody a realistic, three-dimensional human character on screen. He's Peter, the eldest member of a famous New York City string quartet, and it's his diagnosis of early-stage Parkinson's that inaugurates turmoil within their ranks. The marriage of two other members (Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener) hits the skids, while the fourth (Mark Ivanir) is tempted into an inappropriate relationship of his own.
