DONATIONS NEEDED

A sad day. Clearing away the debris from the fallen marquee.

Last year local residents and film buffs from across the city donated $30,000 in short order to the Revue Film Society’s campaign to save the theatre.

Now that we have a lease, and the Revue is reopening, we’re happy. But we still have to open our wallets. There are big up-front costs to get the theatre operating. Rent has to be paid while the cinema is being fixed up; film distributors require deposits; and upgrading equipment and sprucing up the theatre will cost money.

The campaign to save the Revue attracted many people with a wide range of skills, including expertise in finance, business planning and marketing. They laid out what is required before we launch and what volume of business we must generate to make the cinema self-sustaining once it is open.

For the start-up, we need $60,000 in addition to the $30,000 collected last year, for a total of $90,000. That $60,000 must be raised in about 60 days.

It's a challenge, but one we can meet.
