Drop Your Shorts
July 29th, 2010 marks the date for The Revue's twelfth installment of Drop Your Shorts!
Film submissions will be accepted in person only on a first-come basis at the cinema on Thursday, July 22, 2010, between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. If we haven't filled the allotted screentime with submissions on Wednesday, will we accept further submissions in person on a first-come basis at the cinema on Saturday, July 24, 2010, between noon and 1:30 p.m. If required, there will be a notice on the Revue Cinema website (www.revuecinema.ca ) posted shortly after the close of submissions on Thursday, July 22th, indicating whether there remains room in the program for further submissions to be accepted on Saturday, July 24th.
So stop by The Revue to drop off your short masterpiece for consideration in Toronto's original user-generated short film festival.
All filmmakers – professionals, students, amateurs, and everyone in between – are invited to participate and we welcome all types of film – comedies, dramas, docs, animated, experimental – as long as they're short and under 15 minutes.
All films must meet the guidelines listed below. We'll randomly arrange your shorts — each 15 minutes or less — to form a 1.5 hour programme. So filmmakers (both established and aspiring), come to The Revue and Drop Your Shorts! And don't forget to bring your friends because admission to the screening is still only $2.00!
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES (please read them carefully)
1) Submissions must be brought to the Revue Cinema on along with a $10 registration fee that will help us offset the costs of the screening (and includes your admission to the event). You will need to fill out a short form and sign a waiver.
2) This is a first-come, first-accepted process until we fill the (approximately) 90-minute running time: please come early to ensure you're among the featured filmmakers. There is typically a line-up before the noon opening.
3) It's referred to as your fifteen minutes of fame for a reason. Entries that run longer than 15 minutes will not make it into the screening. We want to showcase as many auteurs as possible, therefore we would suggest that you create a shorter edit of your epic if necessary to get it in under the 15 minute limit. And for this reason, too, we request only one entry per filmmaker.
4) While The Revue can screen virtually all media formats (35mm and 16mm film, DVD, and miniDV), we REQUIRE that your film be submitted as a standard DVD. The DVD must also be formatted with a display aspect ratio of 4:3. Widescreen films can be letterboxed to 16:9 within the 4:3 frame. We also request that the short film you're entering be the ONLY film on the submitted disc. Please ensure that your submitted DVD plays correctly (it will help if the DVD is a new one).
5) We'll review your submissions to ensure all films are in compliance with - at maximum - the "R" rating guidelines of the Ontario Film Review Board (OFRB):
www.ofrb.gov.on.ca/english/classification_guideline_en.pdf
6) Please ensure that the film you submit is the one you want to see on screen. Due to programming constraints there will be absolutely NO opportunity to alter your film after submission.
7) All submissions will be returned immediately following the event.
A CAVEAT OR TWO
The Revue Cinema reserves the right not to screen content we deem objectionable. As it is with any non-OFRB classified films, this screening carries a blanket "R" rating, which means those in attendance must be 18 and over.
