Two historical moments in Japanese-Turkish relations are connected in this epic film; the tragic 1890 maritime accident of the Ottoman frigate Ertuğrul off the coast of Japan where survivors were helped by local people from Wakayama; and the rescue in 1985 of Japanese nationals by a Turkish Airlines team during the Iraq-Iran war.
