When their disaster of a friend Lou (former Daily Show correspondent Corddry) is intercepted in the middle of what appears to be a suicide attempt, long-time friends Adam (Cusack) and Nick (Robinson, of The Office) attempt to buoy his spirits with a trip to their old haunt, a once-lively ski resort where they spent many a wild weekend in their youth. The title says it all: hurtled through time to relive their teens in the neon-hued eighties, the boys try desperate not to set off a “butterfly effect” and possibly eliminate their future selves, a la Marty McFly. “A chlorinated, R-rated Back to the Future, Hot Tub Time Machine accomplishes what Snakes on a Plane did not: It offers a merrily idiotic movie to go with its willfully idiotic title,” says the Chicago Tribune.
