Great Cinematography in Revue
Films As They Should Be Seen
Welcome to a special new program showcasing films with great cinematography on the big screen…where they deserve to be seen.
The next installment of Great Cinematography in Revue will feature Stanley Kubrick's The Shining on Sunday, November 28 at 3:00 p.m. A 35mm print of the film will be screened followed by a Q&A via Skype with the legendary Garrett Brown, ASC, inventor of the Steadicam™ and one of the key film techicians on The Shining.
The Revue, in partnership with film curator Alan Bacchus and The Canadian Society of Cinematographers, will hold a screenings for films renowned for their cinematography. Films will be selected whereby the director of photography can be interviewed, either in person or by Skype. Q&As will be moderated by a Toronto-based director of photography from the CSC (Canadian Society of Cinematographers).
Our first presentation was The Thin Red Line, featuring a conversation with the film's cinematographer, John Toll, ASC, on the making of the film.
The Thin Red Line (1998) directed by Terrence Malick and starring Sean Penn, is an elegant and poetic adaptation of James Jones’ acclaimed novel about the dramatic Battle of Guadalcanal during World War II.
