Bolt
2008 (Byron Howard, Chris Williams) PG, 96 min
Starring: John Travolta, Mark Walton, Miley Cyrus, Susie Essman
Bolt (voiced by Travolta) isn’t a superdog, but he plays one on TV. His canine brain struggles to distinguish between Hollywood magic and real life. When Bolt is accidentally shipped to New York, he figures his superpowers will zip him back to L.A. During the course of this animated family flick, our hero discovers his superpowers are bogus—and that his genuine abilities are much more powerful. Along for his Incredible Journey-esque trek are two newfound friends: cat Mittens (Essmann) and plastic-ball-enclosed hamster Rhino (Walton). The pace is frisky and the action kinetic (and kinda scary for wee ones, hence the PG rating) as pooch and posse embark on a series of adventures en route to reuniting with Bolt’s human companion Penny (Cyrus).
