Alex Gibney, Oscar winner for Taxi to the Dark Side, takes on the incredible task of documenting gonzo journalist and pop culture icon Hunter S. Thompson. For the Thompson enthusiast, the film features previously unseen home movies and audiotapes, and is narrated by Thompson's friend Johnny Depp, who played the lead in Terry Gilliam's 1998 adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. According to James Rocchi of the Sundance Review, “Gonzo is as energetically flawed and rivetingly reckless as its subject, and somehow that seems exactly right.”
