Klute

USA, 1971, 114 mins, R

Although technically named after another character (detective John Klute, played by Donald Sutherland), Klute truly belongs to Jane Fonda’s Bree Daniels, a sex worker who gets entangled in a missing persons investigation after receiving obscene letters and phone calls. The first in Alan J. Pakula’s three-part “paranoia trilogy” (see also: The Parallax View and All the President’s Men), the crime thriller was a fresh start for Fonda both personally and professionally, resulting in her first Oscar win. And then, of course, there is Bree’s iconic shag haircut and turtleneck-filled wardrobe, which was inspired by Fonda’s own style at the time.

So put on your favourite trench and oversized sunglasses and join us as we toast to “the best actress in the world.” And don’t miss We Really Like Her!’s FONDAVISION miniseries wherever you get your podcasts!
