Moonstruck is a movie about the irrationality of love, which follows its characters from the kitchen table to local, Italian-American restaurants, the family deli, and the neighbourhood bakery.

Cher–who transforms into 90% hair as the movie progresses–plays Loretta, a 37 year old widow, who tries desperately to marry her boss (Johnny) out of practicality, but instead finds herself falling in love with his brother, Ronnie. Ronnie is played by Nic Cage, whose costume consists of a tank top and a fake hand–the result of a freak, bread slicer accident, which occurred during one of his shifts as a bread baker at the Cammareri Brothers Bakery. This is a movie that teeters on the edge of the absurd with its robust and operatic performances, but eventually concludes with sweetness–like the sugar cubes dropped in glasses of sparkling wine during celebrations over an engagement.

Director: Norman Jewison
Cast: Cher, Nicolas Cage, Olympia Dukakis
