“It don’t make no difference how much, Julie. The other side will always pay more.”

In-house series Neon Dreams and Don’t Be So Political team up to present American Gigolo—Paul Schrader’s surreal and salacious thriller that takes you deep inside an era-defining world of sex, materialism, and the seamy underbelly of the American dream.

Featuring a star-making performance by Richard Gere as Julien—a high class male prostitute whose lavish lifestyle is interrupted when a client is found dead and he becomes the prime suspect. American Gigolo is notable for its appropriately excessive style, iconic music by Giorgio Moroder and Blondie, custom outfits by Giorgio Armani, and not-so-subtle explorations of queer subtext. Co-starring the great Lauren Hutton, Nina van Pallandt, Hector Elizondo, and Bill Duke.

Joining us for a frank post-screening discussion of the profession of and politics surrounding sex work is writer, performer, and sex worker advocate Andrea Werhun. Among her many accolades, you may know Andrea as author of Modern Whore, actor in Sook-Yin Lee’s Paying For It, and creative consultant for Sean Baker’s Anora.

For this screening we are raising funds and accepting donations to support Butterfly: Asian and Migrant Sex Worker Support Network.
