DETAILS
Put on your best platforms and get ready to hit the stacks as We Really Like Her! co-hosts Emily and Danita invite you to celebrate the most fashionable librarian in film history with a screening of the 4K restoration of PARTY GIRL (1995)!
The first feature film to premiere on the internet (!!!), Daisy von Scherler Mayer’s Party Girl was ahead of the curve in many ways. Giving Parker Posey a leading role following her stellar supporting performances in Coneheads, Dazed and Confused and Mixed Nuts, the comedy follows NYC socialite Mary as she works to repay her godmother Judy (Sasha von Scherler) for bailing her out of jail by working as a library clerk. What starts as a fashion-forward fish-out-of-water tale quickly turns into an unconventional love story, as Mary not only falls for dashing street vendor Mustafa (a very hunky Omar Townsend), but also her new line of work. This is the kind of movie where the protagonist ends up wearing glasses by the end of the movie, not the other way around!
Featuring an outrageously stacked soundtrack, an irresistible supporting performance from a young Guillermo Díaz, and some of the best outfits to ever grace the silver screen, Party Girl is a guaranteed good time. Just be warned: You may leave desperately craving a falafel with hot sauce, a side order of baba ghanoush and a seltzer. – EMILY GAGNE & DANITA STEINBERG
