Join Us For Our Monthly Staff Pick! This month, our amazing concession staff member Roya picks PERSEPOLIS!

” I must have been a preteen when my dad put on Persepolis. It stood out considering my family rarely watched animation, but it felt mature and cool…funny, even. Growing up in Canada to immigrant parents, I was learning French in school, so I understood quite a bit—a strange upper hand to my father who actually grew up in Iran. Looking back, this might have been one of my earliest exposures to “diasporic identity” and what it meant for my family. I went on to read the graphic novel in high school…and again as an adult. It’s relevance knows no bounds. I’ve never seen a coming-of-age that is not painful and awkward; add a revolution and Persepolis will take you there in all it’s sincere passion and artistry. ” – ROYA
