Pillow Talk

USA | 1959 | 102 min | STC

A man and a woman who share a party line cannot stand each other, but he has fun romancing her with his voice disguised.

60th anniversary screening! Pillow Talk’s battle of the sexes revived the rom-com: When playboy songwriter Brad Allen (Rock Hudson) and his string of romances annoy his single career gal neighbour, interior designer Jan Morrow (Doris Day) on the telephone party line they share, he decides to woo her. Crossed wires, mistaken identity, double-entendre banter (it won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay) and hilarity ensue. Hudson and Day are clearly having a great time together. Art director Richard Riedel’s stylized glam New York set designs were nominated for an Oscar—and Day’s wardrobe by Jean Louis should have been!
