Based on M R James’ classic tale of terror, ‘Casting the Runes’, and adapted for the screen by regular Hitchcock collaborator Charles Bennett, Jacques Tourneur’s NIGHT OF THE DEMON is considered to be one of the seminal horror films of 20th Century cinema. A cynical American psychologist travels to England to investigate a satanic cult suspected in more than one death, and finds out that the cult’s Satanic powers are very real indeed. This hauntingly beautiful restoration is the American (rather than UK) release version, with its alternate title, CURSE OF THE DEMON.

Gorgeous restoration of the UK horror classic + a live performance by The Great Octopus, celebrating the films of director Jacques Tourneur (CAT PEOPLE, I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, NIGHT OF THE DEMON)!

Prior to the film, there will be a live performance by The Great Octopus (aka Stompbox series curator, David Bertrand) celebrating the release of their new album “EXPERIMENT PERILOUS: Themes Inspired by the Nightmare Cinema of Jacques Tourneur”, set to clips of the Tourneur films that inspired each track, including the Val Lewton produced CAT PEOPLE, I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE, plus deeper cuts like GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING and more.
