ABOUT THE NEON DREAM SERIES
Neon Dreams is a Toronto, ON based film series bringing you the best in delightfully surreal neo-noir cinema from the ’70s, ’80s, and beyond. PAST (more…)
Every so often a true gem of ’70s crime cinema falls between the cracks and gets forgotten despite some stellar talent in front of and behind the camera. Straight Time is one such film, and Neon Dreams is bringing it to The Revue for a rare chance to see it theatrically in a glorious new remaster.
“Dustin Hoffman gives what is possibly his finest and most demanding performance” (Pauline Kael) working off a script from Edward Bunker and Michael Mann. He’s joined by a murderer’s row of character actors including Harry Dean Stanton, Theresa Russell, Gary Busey, Kathy Bates, and M. Emmet Walsh in a tale of a recently paroled ex-con’s attempts to go straight against all odds. Straight Time is a seedy, neon-soaked thrill-ride through the bygone streets of Los Angeles that offers a perfect balance of tragedy, romance, and humour while delivering a healthy dose of pulpy action.
