The Muppet Movie

USA | 1979 | 95 min | G

Kermit and his new found friends trek across America to find success in Hollywood, but a frog-legs merchant is after Kermit.

Throwback Cinema in March is all about MUPPETS! We’re going back to 1979 and the film that started it all, The Muppet Movie. Follow the origin story of Kermit and the gang as they travel across America, intent on getting to Hollywood and realizing their dreams of a career in show business. But it won’t be easy: French-Fried Frog Legs restauranteur Doc Hopper is intent on making Kermit his mascot, and will not rest until he gets what he wants! Filled with cameos by Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, Carol Kane, Milton Berle, Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, Bob Hope, Orson Welles and many others, The Muppet Movie delights in breaking the fourth wall for laughs and meta-fiction to advance the plot. A blockbuster hit when it was released, The Muppet Movie was an innovation in design and production (Roger Ebert was especially pleased at the reveal of Muppet feet!), was introduced into the Library of Congress in 2009, and remains a beloved inspiration to audiences all over the world. Join us on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 PM and count yourself among the lovers and dreamers! –CRYSTAL MADOREĀ
