Neon Dreams continues our yearly tradition of Walter Hill November (see also Streets Of Fire, November 2021) with the era-defining comic book crime thriller The Warriors. Soaring synths, aggressive hand-to-hand combat, and outrageously themed gangs with impeccable dress sense lead the charge in this roaring piece of up-all-night cult cinema.
Constantly imitated but never replicated, Hill’s 1979 masterpiece exists simultaneously as both an endlessly quotable popcorn thriller and a fascinating document of dirty old pre-Disney Store New York City. The Warriors has lost none of its edge over the years and remains just as exciting and intoxicating as it did the day it was released.
