We Really Like Her! returns from its unscheduled hiatus (COVID said, “No screenings, denied!”) with the best movie ever made about two friends running a public-access show from one of their basements: Wayne’s World (1992). Join us (WRLH! hosts Emily Gagne and Danita Steinberg) as we bow down to Wayne, Garth, Cassandra and the punk rock babe behind it all: Penelope Spheeris (“We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy!”).
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past three decades (seriously, get the net!), you should know that Wayne’s World follows long-time friends and collaborators Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) as they attempt to LIVE IN THE NOW … while also battling the dickish producer Benjamin Kane (Rob Lowe) for control of their newly sponsored series and the affections of expert wailer/Crucial Taunt lead singer Cassandra Wong (Tia Carrere). With cameos from everyone from Meat Loaf to Chris Farley to the T-1000, this Ballroom Blitz of ‘90s nostalgia remains as hilarious and headbangin’ as ever thanks to Spheeris’s fearlessly fun direction, the ever-quotable script (co-written by Bonnie and Terry Turner of 3rd Rock from the Sun and That ‘70s Show), and that certified double-Platinum soundtrack.
So schwing on by the Revue September 23 for a celebration of friendship, foxy ladies, and finding success on your own terms. We promise to make you laugh, cry and NOT hurl into your mask. PARTY TIME, EXCELLENT! – EMILY GAGNE + DANITA STEINBERG
