Neon Dreams is thrilled to take a rare matinee detour to celebrate Full Moon’s Eve at The Revue Cinema with Wolf—an extremely underrated (and extremely 1994) entry into the werewolf genre. Boldly melding terrifying elements of The Wolf Man with the cut-throat world of publishing, Wolf is one of the oddest, campiest, and most beguiling studio pictures of the ’90s. And one that is begging for reevaluation.

Made on a massive (at the time) $70 million budget, this Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and James Spader vehicle boasts an obscene amount of talent behind the camera as well—directed by Mike Nichols (Working Girl), shot by Giuseppe Rotunno (All That Jazz), scored by Ennio Morricone (The Thing), with makeup effects by Rick Baker (American Werewolf in London). All of these pros give it everything they’ve got for a film that includes Jack Nicholson scaring horses and “marking his territory” by urinating on James Spader’s shoes. This particular brand of unhinged ’90s studio absurdity was built for big screen enjoyment, and will be a perfect way to kick off a day of howling at the moon. Did we mention it’s also incredibly hot?
