Thank you to everyone who joined us for last night’s Revue Fundraiser Tracing The Steps Celebrating Les Ballets Russes & The Nijinskys. It was an enlightening, warm and enjoyable community evening.
As Toronto gets ready for Nijinsky, National Ballet of Canada acclaimed ballet, The Revue, brought together Toronto based artists who have explored the legend behind the talent and charisma of Vaslav Nijinsky and Les Ballets Russes. The evening featured two insightful talks by Toronto novelist, Eva Stachniak, whose latest historical novel The Chosen Maiden (Doubleday, Canada) tells the story of Vaslav Nijinsky and his sister Bronislava, and the National Ballet of Canada’s principal dancer Piotr Stanczyk who provided an insider’s perspective on the upcoming production of Nijinsky, in which he dances the role of Diaghilev.
It is not often that significant Toronto institutions of performing arts and literature work together to raise money to support a local community cultural centre – but we are very grateful they did.
We were honoured to have been a part of this unique collaboration by four venerable and generous arts organizations, who came together to create this exciting evening. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Tracing The Steps sponsors; Eva Stachniak,The National Ballet of Canada, The Pia Bouman School For Ballet and Creative Movement and Penguin Random House Canada and for the contributions of all the guests who joined us. The much-needed money raised, over $5,000, will support the ongoing operations and programming of the Revue.
