FAQ - It’s alright to cry and other answers to your questions

What do you mean by ‘baby-friendly environment’?
A: Each Monday afternoon the cinema is transformed into a parent’s sanctuary. With plenty of stroller parking, in the lobby you’ll also find change tables equipped with diapers and wipes, bottle warming service, and play stations for those little ones who won’t succumb to sleep. The experience in the auditorium is also controlled, with volume turned down to protect sensitive ears. And of course if your baby cries you’re among friends (though most babies are easily calmed in the darkened auditorium).

Will I be able to hear the show?
A: Cinema staff and the Baby and You host go to great lengths to ensure the environment is an enjoyable one, with presentation closely monitored. If your baby cries, remember the audience is sympathetic and typically babies only fuss briefly before falling off to sleep. The lobby is well-equipped to help you handle the needs of fussier babies if you step out for a moment.

Who are Baby and You Hosts?
A: Each screening is staffed by a Baby and You volunteer host who greets fellow parents and caregivers, orients newbies on the finer points of the Baby and You experience, can watch little ones during your restroom breaks, and liaises with cinema staff to ensure optimal presentation. Please contact us if you’re interested in this volunteer opportunity!

How old does my baby have to be?
A: Usually younger babies (birth to 12 months) do best, nursing and sleeping through screenings, but you know your baby best. Please note that films are adult in nature and not necessarily suitable for children.

How is this experience different from other baby screenings in the city?
A: As a community-based cinema, this film series is yours. Every time you attend, volunteer, or share your thoughts for improvement with us you help determine the success of the Baby and You screening series. Not only will you be catching a great film, you’ll be supporting Toronto’s only not-for-profit cinema and other neighbourhood parents. That’s entertainment you can feel good about.
Check back shortly for information on pre-screening playgroups.

How do I find out what’s playing?
A: Check this page or the Revue's calendar page regularly to see the most recent schedule posted biweekly and be sure to pick up R Magazine to stay up-to-date with community goings-on. You can also sign up for our enewsletter to get listings sent to your inbox and join our Facebook group to keep the conversation going after the credits roll.

What’s the price of admission?
A: The Revue is a member-supported cinema. Tickets for Baby and You screenings are $7.00 with your valid membership (memberships can be purchased at the box office for $6.00 and are good for six months); children and seniors tickets are $6.00; and babies under 2 get in for free.

How do I get there?
A: Good question! With the street redevelopment in full swing, navigating Roncey is a bit tricky. Street parking is available on side streets as is frequent northbound 504 bus service to Dundas West Station. Travelling south from Dundas West Station – it may be best to walk three blocks to the Revue or prepare yourself for the scenic tour as the bus route diverts.

How can I get involved?
A: The Revue Cinema is run by the Revue Film Society, a community-based organization comprised of local residents and cinephiles. We are always looking for new volunteers. Love the experience and looking for ways to help out? Consider becoming a Baby and You Host or just help spread the word about this screening series. The Revue is your cinema – help make the series as diverse and dynamic as our community.
