Chocolat

2000 (Lasse Hallström) PG, 121 minutes

Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, Lena Olin

As part of the Epicure’s Revue program, the theatre celebrates the wonderful dark confection with a screening of Chocolat, in which a woman (Binoche) and her daughter shake up a small, staid French town when they open up a chocolate shop stocked with sinfully tempting confections. ($7 advance, $8 and $10 at the door).

Roncesvalles restaurants and shops are joining in, offering chocolate-themed menus and showcasing their chocolate products. Here’s a taste: a four-course menu at Blue Plate ($30) with chocolate flavouring both savoury and sweet dishes; a chocolate tasting at The Chocolateria ($20); chocolate fondue and drinks at Fat Cat Wine Bar ($30 for two); a caribou filet, served with a savoury Mexican chocolate mole sauce, at The Dizzy ($16); chocolate-themed wine-tasting at Lardon ($25); and complimentary chocolate sampling at The Mercantile. Pick up a list of participating retailers and restaurants at the cinema or visit revuecinema.ca. Bring a food-bank donation to the film and be eligible for a free Chocolateria sample.
