The Book of Eli
2010 (Albert and Allen Hughes) 14A, 117 min
Starring: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis
Thirty years after "The War that tore a hole in the sky," Eli (Washington) travels on foot across a stark wasteland that once was America - defending himself against road-gangs and vile criminals along the way - all to protect a very special book. This book brings Eli unwavering strength and protection, but it won't, however, stop countless men from trying to get it away from him. Breathtaking cinematics mixed with a gritty steampunk look makes this fantasy-western stand out in a crowd of post-Apocalyptic thrillers rolling through theatres as of late. Add to it an impressive cast with cameos from talent like Frances de la Tour, Tom Waits and Michael Gambon, plenty of stylized cut-throat action sequences, and a hauntingly fitting score and you have a definite must-see for the big screen.
