War Music
2009 (David Porteous) STC, min
Starring: Documentary
When Canadian singer and songwriter David Porteous toured Europe, he didn’t take in the usual tourist spots. Instead, the 22-year-old followed the footsteps of Canadian soldiers in World War II, visiting battlefields and cemeteries across Europe. On the way, he interviewed veterans, and wrote and recorded music. He also documented his experiences in a film, War Music, which screens Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 13-14, at The Revue.. “Most people do not realize that everyone in war is a casualty,” says Porteous. “Even the soldiers and civilians that survive have the incredibly difficult task of picking up the pieces and moving onwards.” David Porteous will be at the theatre for a Q&A following both screenings.
