Gregg Araki’s incendiary TOTALLY FUCKED UP (1993) is a raw, neon-lit scream into the void of queer youth alienation. Part of Araki’s “Teen Apocalypse Trilogy,” this anarchic cult classic follows a group of disaffected Los Angeles teens—gay, punk, and utterly disillusioned—as they navigate love, lust, and the looming dread of adulthood. Shot on gritty 16mm with Araki’s signature nihilistic wit, the film blends vérité realism with surreal interludes, set to a throbbing indie soundtrack.

A defining work of the New Queer Cinema movement, TOTALLY FUCKED UP remains as confrontational and vital as ever.  (ALICE ROSE)

Content warning: Explicit sexual content, drug use, and unflinching discussions of suicide.

“A middle finger to conformity, a love letter to the lost.”

Part of the Hold Up! series!
