Extraordinary Women Series: Hildegard of Bingen: A Visionary GeniousPresented by Back Lane Studios with the Revue Cinema

Join us for another look at the life and work of Hildegard of Bingen, the remarkable and inspiring abbess who lived from 1098-1179. She was a late bloomer. But what a late bloomer. A visionary experience in her early 40s led to one of the most extraordinary creative outpourings in history.

We are screening the biopic Vision: From the Life of Hildegard Bingen, the German biopic directed by Margarethe Von Trotta and starring Barbara Sukowa. Our guest speaker, author Teri Degler, will lead a discussion after the film.

Hildegard may have worn a habit, but she donned many hats: poet and composer, herbalist and healer; theologian and abbess; cosmologist and medical writer, playwright and politician. A true polymath, she wrote about everything — from theology to female sexuality, botany to beer making, while connecting with the most powerful personages of her times.

As the New York Times described her, she was “before the Renaissance, a Renaissance woman.”

Tickets are by a suggested donation of $16.00. All proceeds go to support our programs at Back Lane Studios.

About our Guest Speaker:

Award-winning author Teri Degler has 12 books to her credit including The Fiery Muse: Creativity and the Spiritual Quest (Random House, Canada) and The Divine Feminine Fire: Creativity and Your Yearning to Express Your Self (Dreamriver Press, USA). In addition to probing Hildegard’s view of Sophia as the feminine life force, Teri has explored the surprising parallels found in kundalini-Shakti in Hinduism and Shekinah in Jewish mysticism.
