DO YOU DARE WALK THESE STEPS AGAIN?
On the fifteenth anniversary of the exorcism that claimed Father Damien Karras’ life, Police Lieutenant Kinderman’s world is once again shattered when a boy is found decapitated and savagely crucified.
Written and directed by The Exorcist author William Peter Blatty and based on his 1983 novel, Legion, this third instalment in the series thankfully ignores (mostly) the well-worn trajectory of ‘exorcism’ films that always end up with a beleaguered priest casting out a demon from an increasingly frantic and deteriorating victim.
Instead, the film merges the structure of a crime drama with increasingly supernatural elements and an increasing sense of dread. Featuring powerhouse performances by George C. Scott as Police Lieutenant Kinderman and Brad Dourif as The Gemini Killer, THE EXORCIST III is a more than worthy successor to the 1973 original, while forging its own way into the canon of the best religious horror films ever made. – Steven Landry
