FEATURING A LIVE PERFORMANCE BY SING LEAF!
Premiering in July 1967 — at the height of what became known as the Summer of Love, THE TRIP perfectly captures the spirit of the era, a time when Dr. Timothy Leary famously coined the phrase: “Turn on, tune in, drop out.”
Directed by Roger Corman (often dubbed the King of Cult), this psychedelic odyssey was written by Jack Nicholson and stars Peter Fonda, with a vibrant supporting cast including Susan Strasberg, Bruce Dern, and Dennis Hopper in full hippie mode.
The film follows a television commercial director as he embarks on his first LSD trip, plunging viewers into a kaleidoscopic journey through his psyche.
Technically and visually dazzling, THE TRIP captures the California landscape from the Hollywood Hills to Big Sur through striking cinematography and a barrage of experimental effects. Corman uses kaleidoscopic imagery, colorful lighting, liquid light projections, and strobe effects to immerse audiences in a cinematic approximation of an acid trip.
As the original poster declares:
Listen to the sound of love
Feel purple
Taste green
Touch the scream that crawls up the wall!
A perfect fit for Psych Out Cinema, THE TRIP promises a far-out, sensory-blasting night at The Revue.
Part of the Psych Out Cinema series!
