We Really Like Her!: 9 TO 5 (1980)

Pour yourself a cup of ambition and shake off the January blues with a special screening of 9 to 5 hosted by We Really Like Her! in honour of Dolly Parton’s 80th birthday!

Written by Patricia Resnick and produced by Jane Fonda, 9 to 5 is an irresistibly outrageous ode to working women that, unfortunately, remains as relevant today as it was when it hit theatres in 1980. Starring Fonda, Parton and Lily Tomlin, it follows three co-workers as they dream up an outlandish plan to take down their “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” of a boss (Dabney Coleman). 

Featuring her Oscar-nominated title song, 9 to 5 gave Dolly her first film role, ushering a whole new era for this larger-than-life singer-songwriter and natural comedienne. Armed with a sassy self-awareness and one of her most memorable wigs, Dolly has no problem going toe-to-toe with her more experienced co-stars. The trio’s chemistry is truly unmatched, inspiring countless ensemble comedies (not to mention a failed TV show and hit Broadway musical!) to come.
