The films are hot, but the Revue’s AC will be cranked for the ten films in this summer’s Heat Wave lineup.
Heat Wave at the Revue Cinema, a lineup of the greatest summer movies ever made, continues on July 28th with the significant piece of American cinema IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT with an introduction by Psych-Out Cinema curator, TERRY O’FLAHERTY!
IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT is a classic 60’s crime drama. A whodunnit that keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat until the final frame.
The film premiered in 1967 and was a huge success, winning 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture of the year. The movie is directed by Norman Jewison and stars Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, both of whom were nominated for Best Actor with Steiger winning the award. The movie is beautifully shot by cinematographer Haskell Wexler who manages to bring in an old time sweaty southern look and everything comes together with a soundtrack by music legend Quincy Jones.
The films storyline focuses on the relationship between a black Philadelphia detective played by Poitier and a bigoted white police chief played by Steiger. The two are forced to put their differences aside and work together when a murder occurs in a small redneck town in Mississippi.
IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT is the perfect movie for a hot summer night, and a guaranteed crowd pleaser for when The Revue Cinema presents its Heatwave series on July 28th.
Part of the Heat Wave series!
