ABOUT THE DUMPSTER RACCOON EVENT

Dumpster Raccoon Cinema’s QUEER SLASHER SUMMER CAMP SERIES reaches its CRASHING CRESCENDO with an extra-special debut screening of Jane Schoenbrun’s new and instantly iconic examination of trans horror, TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA!

When hot young queer filmmaker Kris (Hacks star and comic genius Hannah Einbinder) is hired to reboot hacky problematic slasher series Camp Miasma, which stars the evil “Little Death” (I Saw the TV Glow star Jack Haven) whose childhood gender confusion has led to a life (and afterlife) of grisly murder. Kris becomes determined to bring back the hokey film’s original star (Gillian Anderson, in a strange Norma Desmond as Final Girl turn). Seeking to elevate the original film’s deeply stupid and problematically transphobic material (“we’re from different generations, I guess,” Anderson drawls as her private reel unspools), Kris has a big task ahead. Then things start getting…weird.

A thrillingly electric anatomization and reassemblage of the queer underpinnings of classics like Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp, Schoenbrun’s film (picking up much of the delight in pastiche, kitsch, and nostalgia that marked World’s Fair and TV Glow) is as strangely warm as it is violent – remixing and resplicing the old monsters and the monstrous narratives they inhabit and finding something in them (and ourselves) worthy of love.

It is rare for a film to come along that so immediately speaks to the Dumpster Raccoon ethos and audience, and we can’t wait to show you why we built a summer around this new crown jewel in the bloody queer horror tiara.

With live performance, special surprises, video preshow and cocktails by the Shameful Tiki Room – sponsored by Bay Street Video!
