In Buenos Aires, crooked small-time gambler Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford) talks his way into an uneasy partnership with casino owner Ballin Mundson (George Macready). Turns out the boss’s trophy wife is his former flame. And what a flame! This sultry noir is powered by a triangle of lust, obsession and jealousy—and Rita Hayworth’s magnetic performance as the titular femme fatale. Shimmying her way through “Put the Blame on Mame” in the iconic dress by Jean Louis (and makeup by Toronto-raised Clay Campbell), the supreme wartime pin-up girl becomes the ultimate noir bombshell.

Van Nest Polglase and Columbia’s Oscar-winning art director Stephen Goosson craft a lavish Hollywood fantasia of Latin America for Charles Vidor’s exotic noir. This has it all: emotional blackmail, runaway Nazis, and musical numbers.
