NEW 2K RESTORATION!

After a fatal hit-and-run accident, three high school friends flee the scene of the crime. A sadistic young girl named Pearl happens to witness everything, and blackmails them into committing a series of increasingly violent acts. As anarchy ensues, the friends are eventually brought face to face with a group of dangerous international arms dealers.

One of the most controversial films from the 1980s Hong Kong New Wave, DON’T PLAY WITH FIRE (aka DANGEROUS ENCOUNTERS OF THE FIRST KIND) was immediately banned by censors upon its release due to graphic violence and references to the 1967 Hong Kong riots. The film’s censorship however generated so much public interest that the revised version that was released went on to become a box office success. With a new 2K transfer of the film now available from Cult Epics, Black Belt Cinema invites you to experience legendary producer/director Tsui Hark at his most angry and political.
