Family loyalty is put to the test in 1950s New Jersey, where immigrant brothers Primo (Tony Shalhoub) and Secondo (Stanley Tucci) labour at their traditional Italian restaurant. One is the culinary artist, the other their front-of-house pragmatist. Over the course of preparing an Italian feast to honour jazz musician Louis Prima, who’s rumoured to be coming to the restaurant, the brothers contend with looming bankruptcy and questions of authenticity, heritage and assimilation—while witnessing the outrageous success of showman and restaurant rival Pascal (Ian Holm), who serves cliché Americanized Italian food. Quiet and bittersweet, Big Night stars Tony Shalhoub, Stanley Tucci, Isabella Rossellini, and a monumental golden-crusted timpano. Featuring costume design by The Sopranos’ Juliet Polcsa and the sumptuous food styling of Deborah DiSabatino and her team.
