This romantic satire of beautiful but easily bored London model Diana Scott is the celebrated role that made Julie Christie a star and earned her the Best Actress Oscar. Navigating the various men in her professional and personal life offers a darkly funny critique of the fickle jet set, and a revealing study of society in transition. The London fashion scene setting, in the heart of the Swinging Sixties, also makes Darling a near-documentary — cannily captured in Julie Harris’s Oscar-winning costume design (one of the movie’s three Academy Awards and four BAFTAs).
