Part of āDonāt Be So Politicalā, a political film series showing one Sunday night a month.Ā
āIt belongs in a museum.āĀ
An adventuring archaeology professor must find the fabled Ark of the Covenant before Hitlerās ThirdĀ Reich unleashes its awesome power.
An artifact can live a peopleās history. To take it from those people weakens their identity. AndĀ while Indiana Jones has noble intentions in displaying these artifacts in museums for educationalĀ purposes, the ownership of certain artifacts has become a political issue. The contention of theĀ British with the Parthenonās Frieze and others, the French with Egyptian obelisks and others, and theĀ ROM and RAM with, until recently, the Creator Stone of the First Nations and others. However, theĀ release ofĀ Raiders of the Lost ArkĀ precedes the publicity of this issue and instead uses the Ark of theĀ Covenant as a symbolic replacement for the atomic bomb, its biblical might, and the unthinkableĀ consequences of its use. Winner of four Oscars and nominee of four more, Spielberg steers HarrisonĀ Ford and Karen Allen through an action-packed adventure at pace with any summer blockbuster. (ZACH WORTZMAN)
