Neon Dreams and Paid In Sweat celebrate the 40th anniversary of Canada’s very own answer to Flashdance—Lawrence Dane’s Heavenly Bodies. Starring the incredible Cynthia Dale (My Bloody ValentineThe Boy In Blue) and boasting a banging new wave soundtrack featuring Sparks, Bonnie Pointer, Boys Brigade, The Tubes, and so many more, Heavenly Bodies is an impossibly infectious crowd-pleaser that shows off the little seen north-of-the-border side of the 1984 dance craze.

Single mom Samantha Blair (Dale) quits her mundane office job and opens up her own “dance-ercize” studio (the titular Heavenly Bodies) in Toronto, ON. When her studio faces potential closure at the hands of a shady rival studio owner, Samantha has to step up and save Heavenly Bodies the only way a film from 1984 will allow—by hosting an all-night dance-a-thon.

The neon, synth, and spandex heavy aesthetics will keep you wide-eyed throughout, but it’s Cynthia Dale’s effervescent performance that keeps things grounded by injecting a believable dose of sincerity and vulnerability into an otherwise campy dance flick. This earnest and refreshingly R-rated crowd-pleaser has all the right moves to have you dancing and cheering in the aisles. Do not miss out on this rare opportunity to catch a true CanCon gem theatrically with a raucous crowd.

This screening and others are made possible thanks to our wonderful sponsor Hollywood Suite.
