Neon Dreams’ Summer of ’06 continues with Michael Mann’s bold and divisive remake of his own hit television show Miami Vice. The film that baffled audiences on release by transforming the groundbreaking series into something achingly modern has gone on to attract a rabid cult following, and is now considered as cinematically defining of the ’00s as the NBC show was of the ’80s.

 

 

Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx star as the new Crocket and Tubbs, submerged deep into the Miami underworld when tasked with going deep undercover to investigate the brutal murders of two federal agents. Featuring an outstanding supporting cast including Naomie Harris, Gong Li, John Ortiz, Ciarán Hinds, Justin Theroux, and John Hawkes.

 

 

With Mann’s return to Miami, you can forget the soothing new wave sounds of Phil Collins—we’ve got NuMetal legends Audioslave and Linkin Park. Don’t even think about MTV-style aesthetics—he’s serving something much darker, grittier, and… digital. Completely abandoning any sense of nostalgia fans were expecting, Mann crafted something completely unique and singular. It only took 20 years and counting, but the public is finally catching up and declaring the film a masterpiece.
