Kurosawa knew. Years before the mainstream acceptance of social media, this film knew that the Information Age was leading us down a path of digital isolation and loneliness. By framing the connection to the supernatural in a hyper-naturalistic fashion despite its technological angle, the film pulls off an unmatched atmosphere that is eerie, and strangely unnerving.
