RUN LOLA RUN is a fast moving, heart pumping, visually stunning German thriller. The film premiered in 1998, written and directed by Tom Tykwer and starring Franka Potente. Upon release, the movie received worldwide financial and critical success winning the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
The plot follows Lola who needs to obtain 100,000 marks in 20 minutes to save the life of her boyfriend. Along Lola’s journey, the audience is treated to a variety of different cinematic styles and techniques. There’s speedup, instant replay, black and white, animation, and flashes of brilliant psychedelic colour, all enhanced by a techno beat soundtrack that keeps the viewers mind dancing to the on screen action. If all this wasn’t creative enough, the film also offers three different alternative outcomes of what might happen as Lola hits the pavement to find a solution to solve her problem.
