12 MONKEYS is a 1995 visually stunning dark science fiction thriller, directed by Terry Gilliam. The film’s screenplay is written by David Peoples and inspired by Chris Marker’s experimental 1962 short La Jetée.
The movie features an outstanding cast with Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Madeline Stowe giving brilliant performances along with Christopher Plummer in a supporting role.
The film received both critical praise and financial success earning Oscar nominations for Best Costume Design and Brad Pitt for his performance in the Best Supporting Actor category.
The plot follows the main character Cole, a time traveller played by Willis whose mission is to try to save the world from a deadly virus. The time travel takes us on a wild psychedelic ride filled with futuristic special effects and settings. A journey that includes many mind bending twists that keeps the viewer guessing and questioning what is real and what isn’t or is everything just a surreal dream.
