This Summer, we take the (not-so) out of TERRIBLE THREES and present three wonderfully awful three-quels that are “not-so terrible” to revisit on the big screen!
We conclude our Terrible Threes summer mini-series by digging up one of the most forgotten threequels of all time: THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR.
A movie so strange, so recast, so packed with baffling jokes and franchise-detouring choices that most of us collectively agreed to act like it never happened. Even the upcoming and much anticipated THE MUMMY sequel with all of the original cast is blessing its fans by making this sequel not canon with the franchise anymore.
Rachel Weisz is gone. The one-liners are rough, The tone is all over the map. And yet, there’s enough chaotic action, bizarre energy, and big-screen spectacle to make it a genuinely fun curiosity to revisit with a crowd.
Come revisit the sequel history tried to bury. (SERENA WHITNEY)
