WINNER OF DRAMATIC CAGE!
The film that Cage declared “my favorite film I’ve ever made,” PIG features Cage as Rob Feld, a reclusive truffle hunter taking refuge from his former life as a celebrated Portland chef in the wilderness of Oregon. When his beloved and trusted forager pig is kidnapped, Feld braces for a return to urbanity and the depraved food scene that he scorned to save her.
Playing off Odysseus, Cage’s portrayal of a traumatized prodigal chef was critically praised as some of his best work in years, proving that the Oscar-winner was not unlike a finely aged cheese–simply better with time. PIG also proved Cage’s penchant for taking risks with first-time directors–in this case, the talented Michael Sarnoski–and elevating micro-budgeted independent films. The budget was so low, that they couldn’t afford a trained pig, and Cage’s co-star(s) bit him several times. Despite that, the chemistry between Cage and his pig is finely wrought. Imagine a film that combines JOHN WICK, FIGHT CLUB, and FX’s THE BEAR, that will also leave you in tears. PIG is simply that unique.
