On November 5, We Really Like Her! invites you to take a break from anxiously monitoring the American election results and have a laugh with a 25th anniversary screening of Dick.
Starring an especially adorable Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams, Dick tells an untrue version of the Watergate scandal in which “Deep Throat” was actually teenage besties Betsy Jobs (Dunst) and Arlene Lorenzo (Williams). After stumbling upon the Watergate break-in while sneaking out of Arlene’s apartment building, these unlikely heroes end up on a field trip to the White House, where they meet President Richard Nixon (a brilliantly brash Dan Hedaya). In an attempt to keep them quiet, Nixon elects Betsy and Arlene his official dog-walkers. It’s not long after this that the girls find themselves in a parking garage swapping secrets with Bob Woodward (Will Ferrell) and Carl Bernstein (Bruce McCulloch).
Co-written by Sheryl Longin and produced by Gale Anne Hurd, Dick is an unapologetically feminist interpretation of one of the most infamous political scandals in history. In other words, the perfect balm for this especially painful political season. (EMILY GAGNE & DANITA STEINBERG)
