DETAILS

20th Anniversary of the 2004 re-cut version of Richard Kelly’s directorial debut, Donnie Darko!

There are countless reasons to celebrate the 2001 cult sci-fi film DONNIE DARKO, but this summer HOLD UP! is adding it to our list of favourite teen movies. Overflowing with sarcasm, melancholy, and existential dread punctuated by moments of absurd hilarity, DONNIE DARKO captures the essence of being a high school kid in the late 80’s. Join comedian Alice Rose for a deep dive into the Philosophy of Time Travel and the cult thriller that was almost never made.

About The Film

During a sleepwalking episode, troubled teen Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) receives an end-of-the-world prophecy from a hallucination in a rabbit costume named Frank. And somehow, it gets weirder…

As the clock counts down to the apocalypse, Donnie is haunted by visions of Frank that increasingly influence his behaviour. Not one for extracurriculars, Donnie reluctantly sets out to learn about time travel from his science teacher and a senile woman known as Grandma Death. Featuring an eclectic cast including both Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Patrick Swayze, Seth Rogen, and Drew Barrymore (whose company Flower Films also produced the film), and a soundtrack of heart-wrenching new wave hits, DONNIE DARKO is a cult phenomenon that begs to be rewatched!
